When I first heard of the BP oil spill in the Gulf, the first image that came to mind was a three-eyed fish with 7 fins jumping out of Lake Springfield from The Simpsons. You know what lake I’m talking about…the one that little Lisa tried so hard to clean up and preserve and in a split second Homer comes along and the lake immediately reverted back to the radioactive infested goo it once was.

Lets face it, our government is completely inept in dealing with this oil spill. It has been 100 days and over 80 million gallons of oil since this environmental genocide has been spewing oil into our clean waters. Sure BP claims that they have fixed the problem since their “containment cap” has been installed. The truth is the problem has not been fixed. There is a good possibility that this “containment cap” could cause oil to seep out through the ocean floor which would create even more of an environmental disaster. Please do not worry! The Government will handle everything!

Do we wait around for our Government to do something about this? Or do we take this matter into our own hands? Ecosystems have died. The Gulf waters have been desicrated and I wont get to eat shrimp for under $15-$17 lb! We can no longer rely on our government to resolve this situation. We can no longer stand by and expect our elected officials to follow through with their campaign promises. We must take action! Our dependency on foreign oil has backed us into a corner with no way out. We must look to new energy sources and reduce our dependency on oil. Sure most of us recycle, we try to walk more or ride our bicycles if we can, but there is SO much more that we can do.
