There’s still plenty of time left to enjoy this year’s swimsuit season. Fashion industry expert, Cyla Weiner, sheds some light on this season’s hottest trends.
1. GIVE ME COLOR - Black is always in style and flatters everyone. Navy took the crown from 2009′s brown and malachite is an exciting splash that seems to be popping up everywhere. Other popular colors are purple (expect to see a lot of this in Fall too) red, hot pink and sea foam blue.
2. FUNCTIONAL STYLE – Fashionistas the world over love the ‘one shoulder’ but it’s not very functional for tan lines. The ever-popular bandeau and tankini tops are holding their own this season. Mix and match two-pieces work great since most of us need separate sizes for the top and bottom.
3. DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS – Many designers have taken to ruching and shirring; details that are extremely flattering for most body types.
4. THEMES ABOUND - We’re noticing less hardware than in previous years. Prominent themes include solids, stripes and paisley.
5. SUITS FOR THE TOP HEAVY CHICKS -Women have been crying out for sexy, sweet options for D and DD cup women and designers are finally listening. Fantasie, Freya, Shoshanna, and Roidal have all designed strong suits in a variety of colors and prints for this body type.
6. COVER IT UP, BABY - Apparel diversity is apparent this season with cover ups. Very popular this season: the Cool Change apparel items. Long ruffle skirts, a short mini dress that converts to a skirt, as well as big V-neck tops provide sophisticated options to look good in and out of the water.
