July is National Women’s Motorcycle Month. That random fact courtesy of the TODAY show’s Jenna Wolfe. Apparently, more and more women are embracing life “two-wheeling down the road” in recent years and… really, it’s just fun dedicating a whole month to things (right, National Spinach-lovers Month??).
But if you’re like me and not yet ready to hop on a hog anytime soon, fake it ’til you make it with the following chic motorcycle-inspired clothing and accessories.
Warning: Wearing them all together may cause you to feel like more of a bada** than you really are. Proceed (and wear) with caution.
1. LEATHER JACKET: The very versatile leather jacket, cut into more flattering, modern styles for the modern woman. Add some edge to a girly dress (like “Glee” star Amber Riley) or spice up a basic, can’t-think-of-anything-to-wear jeans and tee outfit. But definitely wait until the temperatures are well below 80 before you put on a second skin (literally – sorry, PETA).

2. MOTORCYCLE BOOTS: Like the aforementioned leather jacket, the rugged “motorcycle” boots add some edge to the girliest of looks. Follow actress Camille Belle and pair with an above-the-knee dress or wear with tucked in, slim-fitting jeans and flowy (not to be confused with baggy) or fitted jacket.

3. SUPER SHADES: Safety first! Even when throwing caution to the wind on your imaginary Harley. But no need to look all Dumb and Dumber when channeling your inner biker babe. Just err on the side of hardcore with some dark metal-framed aviators like real-life hog-rider Pink.

4. RIDING GLOVES: I never knew the point of fingerless gloves, but who cares when they can be as stylish an add as these gray ones that Rihanna wore to a dinner. And go ahead and eschew the traditional black for some colorful alternatives. Nothing says bada** like powder pink leather!
