So it was definitely Betty White’s year.

And Conan gets the last laugh (again).

But can I just  talk about how ECSTATIC I am that the under-the-radar, incredible “Friday Night Lights” was one of the shows that was announced as a nominee for an Emmy this morning? Four, count ‘em, four!

And two of them go to my favorite TV couple – Coach Taylor and Tami Taylor (Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton, respectively) – that many of you have yet to meet. It’s fine, they understand. It’s been a slow and rocky journey to TV-land glory for the show that had what few early viewers it captured  petitioning NBC just a couple years ago to keep it around.

Now in its 4th season, they have four (count ‘em) nods and for those of you missing out – nbc.com has full episodes (I feel it’s my duty to share quality programming in a sea of “Jersey Shore.” You’re welcome.)

Still not convinced? Well let me give you FOUR (hehe) reasons to tune in.

1.

Tami and Coach. The chemistry between these two actors is so amazing that you almost feel like they really ARE as in love as they portray. And not in an overly gushy, Katherine Heigl romantic comedy sorta way.

2. It’s not ALL about football. In fact, the most recent season has been focusing more and more on the relationships of the characters (who are an entertaining and lovable bunch) than the field. And it’s documentary-style filming (and encouraged improvisation by the actors) makes the whole thing feel very real in a non-reality TV way (thank gawd!)

3. But then again, there IS football. But even if you don’t follow the sport (see: ME), the drama of the field is still just as riveting. Especially since Coach (as I affectionately call him) was kicked to the curb, essentially, by star and leading high school Dillon last season and forced to take a job with the rival high school.  The

4. Two words: Tim Riggins: Played by Taylor Kitsch, he was one of the few graduating seniors of Dillon High that returned for this latest season. I could tell you why  he’s on this list (brooding? sweet? sometimes a smartass but you can’t hate him because of the first 2 characteristics? check check and check), but if you just start watching at season 1, you’ll understand why he’s on this list.
