At long last yoga is becoming more common place in gyms, fitness centers, and in homes as an accepted form of exercise. It can be very therapeutic and create a positive environment toward better health as it becomes more accepted in mainstream society. Yoga moves are now seen as both an exercise and a spiritual experience.
Classes can be individual, combined or even done from a home DVD. The important thing for good health is to learn Yoga and experience it and the health benefits it can render.
Yoga is gentle stretching combined with a form of breathing than induces relaxation and good health. To accomplish a true yoga experience one must learn to concentrate on what is being done and allow the mind to quiet itself. Once the mind becomes quiet the movement itself becomes almost spiritual as the body moves in rhythm with the universe. There are many poses and forms of yoga and all allow the individual to become the master of their own routine. The moves are not judged as right or wrong. They are not competitive and they are not done at any certain speed. The body learns to create a rhythm that is unique and special. When this occurs in the body the yoga poses become both a physical work out and a mental detoxification. Once the session is completed the body has had a work out but without stress and mental fatigue.
The breathing part of yoga requires a little effort in the beginning but once the mind can be still and quiet and the breath become the central part of what the mind is doing the concept is mastered. When one is able to feel the breath through the body and direct the breath to a specific area the yoga experience is enriched. For example, when a certain yoga movement is in process a muscle may feel discomfort. When this occurs it is important to not judge the discomfort. Instead, the breath should be directed to the source and simply experience the feeling. In no time at all the discomfort is gone and the breath continues to move through the body. Working this breath experience in times of stress and pain can be a very restful and peaceful experience.
The movements of yoga are always different for different people. For example, one person may be very flexible in their upper body and easily flow in and out of poses that use more of the upper body strength. However, another person might find it easier to manipulate and move other parts of the body and not be as agile in the upper body. No judgment is rendered in yoga. The body simply accepts the easier moves with the more challenging ones and adapts.
Yoga can be a very meaningful experience and many people report improved health and a much calmer spirit as they go throughout their day after a yoga session. It is highly recommended for improved health in men, women and children.
